So you’ve just finished developing and editing your website and are ready for launch. But are you really? You may think that everything is done, but there are so many little things that a website is composed of that it’s easy to leave some mistakes.
You want to ensure only the best possible experience for your website visitors, and to do so, you’ll need to check a few things before launching your website. Here’s a short but effective website launch checklist including the most important points to go over before the big day!
Website Launch Checklist
Secure Your Website
As soon as your website is visible to the public, it’s also visible to hackers, and you should know that they can strike even completely fresh websites. That’s why you should try to keep your website safe at all times and ensure this before launching. A few ways to do so are installing a firewall, getting an SSL certificate, and securing your passwords with special security software.
Insert CTAs Wherever They’re Relevant
The main goal of your website is probably for users to make a certain action: it might be to make a purchase, to read the blog, or to learn more about your product. That’s why you should insert as many CTAs as you can (but don’t be too spammy!)
Back It Up
A backup is an absolute must for your new website. With the amount of time you’ve spent on it, you need to keep that data protected. However, a backup of your website that’s three months old may not be of much help if you lose all of your data, so set up automatic updates to make sure you’re covered!
Use the Right Colors and Fonts
Colors and fonts play a significant role in the way that your website is perceived by visitors. Specific colors call out specific emotions, which in turn influence specific actions people take when they’re on your website.

Make Sure All of the Buttons are Working
You’ve probably added plenty of buttons to your website. Imagine the frustration your visitors would feel if some of them didn’t work? Before launching your website, it’s best to go through every single button just to make sure that they’re working.
Proofread Everything
Again, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Grammatical errors can be just as frustrating as invalid buttons, and they make your website look much less reliable. Every piece of text that is found on your website must be of impeccable style and grammar.
The best thing to do would be to read everything over yourself, ask a friend or colleague to read everything, and then finally run everything through Grammarly. These steps should be enough to ensure that your website doesn’t have any errors in its copy.
Add a Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions
These two documents may not be something your visitors will read a lot, but they’re crucial to ensure your website is operating legally. The privacy policy includes information on how you’ll be using the data of your visitors (like analyzing it through Google Analytics), and the terms and conditions explain your obligations as the website owner and the obligations of your visitors.
Set Up Google Analytics
Set up a Google Analytics account before launching your website to ensure that you can track everything from the very start of your website. Only by properly tracking the activity on your website will you be able to optimize it for maximum results.
Edit Your Metadata
The metadata is everything that users see when any of your website’s pages appear in search engines. Since the amount of text that is available in the meta title and meta description is limited, you should make sure that this data is as condensed and informative as possible. Add a call to action or anything that would spark users’ interest and make them want to visit your website.
